about DAVID

David Colin Freeman (born 1977 in Los Angeles, California) is a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and music educator, with a diverse musical background, of whom’s history in underground recordings of various styles goes as far back as 1990.  His work has been featured in independent film and performed live by ensembles throughout the Southwest United States. His most recent work focuses on meditative and spiritual minimalism, and song-without-words contemporary works featuring flute and piano.

David grew up in a quiet suburb north of Los Angeles, Calif.  Although neither of Freeman's parents were musicians by profession, they understood the value of music lessons and made sure that his life was filled with music every day from an early age, and was exposed to many different instruments and styles of music, and studied many instruments, most notably piano and flute. He remembers his first discovery of classical music as he browsed through his parents vinyl collection, and recalls being particularly struck by their many relaxing symphonic recordings.  Early on, Freeman had dreams filled with melody and inspiration.

what his students say

I started studying music, for the first time, at the age of 56. I had a couple of teachers that started me on my way. Then, about six years ago I started to study the piano with David Freeman. It was a much different experience, a more progressive and positive experience. David Freeman is very knowledgeable and talented. He does not just help you play, he shows you how to embrace the instrument and the music. When I am having trouble with a piece, he figures out why and then instructs me how to fix it.

Another attribute he has is patience. David never rushes me or show any annoyance. Any criticism is done in a constructive way, with the purpose being to educate and enhance my performance. He once told me that he was here to help me, and that is exactly what he does. I feel blessed to have David Freeman as my maestro.
